This past Saturday, November 23rd, I had the pleasure of working for brother Nino Jazz (Adilson Tito de Sousa), a talented producer, composer and pianist from Luanda, Angola. I’ve had the honor of working with Nino on various projects since 2015 and this latest one is truly exciting.
Nino Jazz and Filipe Zau composed "Voz, Câmara e Saxofone"—a monumental musical project celebrating Angolan culture. It's an ambitious endeavor with parts of the project featuring various singers in Angola and a string orchestra (strings arrangement by Nino Jazz and João da Silva) conducted by Nikola Lekic and recorded in Macedonia and it’s clear that this production will be something special.
Nino invited me to handle the drum tracking for the project, which I was more than happy to do.
I recorded the drums at one of my favorite studios in the Netherlands: Wedgeview Studios, in the beautiful countryside of Woerdense-Verlaat, not far from Utrecht. I had the studio to myself which allowed me to focus on getting everything just right. I took care of the mic setup, cabling, patching, playing and Pro Tools session, quite a busy day, but enjoyed every second of it.
Felipe Pipi, a great videographer that also shot and edited the EPK of one of my own albums Nebula, joined me in capturing all the action and the behind-the-scenes moments. It will be added into a compelling making-of documentary afterwards.
I had an incredibly fun and productive day and I’m excited to see how the project develops. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting project as it evolves!
